6 Days Morocco Desert Tour Itinerary From Marrakech

The 6-day Morocco desert tour begins with an early pickup from either the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. From there, we will drive through the stunning High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. Along the way, we will make stops to take in the panoramic views of the breathtaking landscapes. Our first destination will be the Kasbah of Telouat.

Next, we will visit the renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic site has been featured in numerous films, including Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as in the TV series Game of Thrones. After our visit, we will continue to Ouarzazate, known as "The Gateway to the Desert." Dinner and an overnight stay will be at a hotel.

After breakfast, we head to the Atlas Studio, renowned for its iconic film sets, followed by a visit to the Taourirt Kasbah in Ourzazate. Next, we drive southeast to explore the Amridil Kasbah, nestled among palm groves in Skoura, before continuing on to the Rose Valley. Each May, the Rose Festival takes place here, showcasing local rose products such as perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics.

As we drive through the Dades Valley, we pause at a viewpoint to take in the breathtaking scenery of the Dades Gorges. Our journey then leads us to the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a stunning canyon with towering red cliffs. You'll have some free time for lunch, allowing you to stroll through the gorges and soak in the natural beauty.

In the afternoon, we arrive at the Sahara Desert in Merzouga, where you'll switch to camels for a ride across the sandy expanse. We'll stop to witness the enchanting sunset from the top of a high dune before continuing to our luxurious desert camp, where you can unwind and enjoy the evening.

Waking up early in the morning is essential to witness the stunning sunrise in the heart of the desert. After enjoying some free time for breakfast, you'll return on camels to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. The day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, which boasts a wealth of incredible sites, including sand dunes, a wild lake, mining areas, fossil sites, and beautiful oases—perfect for a variety of outdoor activities.

Our adventure begins in Merzouga with an off-road drive to visit an ancient eyeliner mine. Next, we will meet the nomads in their handwoven tents, where you can learn about their way of life while sipping on traditional Berber tea. Our journey continues to Khamlia village, where you can enjoy captivating Gnaoua music and dance performances. The villagers have roots in sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger. You'll have some free time for lunch at a local restaurant before we take a leisurely stroll through a palm grove. Finally, we’ll drive a short distance to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingo Lake.

After breakfast, we depart from the desert to explore Rissani, the historic capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a vibrant trading hub, particularly bustling on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays when the souk comes alive. After wandering through the Rissani souk, we proceed to Erfoud to visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble.

Next, we drive along the Ziz River and pause to take in the stunning panoramic views of the Ziz Valley. You'll have some free time for lunch in Midelt before we continue to the cedar forest, home to the Barbary Macaques. Feel free to feed them as you stroll through the forest. Our journey then takes us to Ifrane, renowned for its cool climate, snow, and charming alpine-style architecture—it's no surprise it's often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco. Finally, we will drop you off at your accommodation in Fes.

After breakfast, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Fes to embark on a journey through this remarkable city, known as one of Morocco's imperial cities and its cultural and religious heart.

Our day begins at the impressive Royal Palace gate, followed by a stroll through the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Blue Gate, or Bab Boujloud, serves as the entrance to the old Medina, where you will be guided by a local expert. Together, we will explore the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine Fountain, the Tanneries, and the historic Quaraouin Mosque and University, recognized as the oldest university in the world.

Next, we will leave the Medina to visit the Jewish quarter, known as the Mellah. Our tour will conclude with a visit to an ancient fortress, offering stunning panoramic views of the Medina and the city of Fes before we return you to your riad.

Following breakfast, we will collect you for a brief tour of the city of Fes before taking you to the airport. This marks the conclusion of your Morocco desert tour from Marrakech.
